"Union City" is a non-fiction film book about the 1980 cult classic of the same name, starring Deborah Harry and Dennis Lipscomb. Featuring exclusive interviews with many of the cast and crew, including director Marcus Reichert who unfortunately passed away shortly after the book was completed, it will be published in the Midnight Movie Monograph series by Electric Dreamhouse (an imprint of PS Publishing) sometime in the next twelve months.

In addition to a scene by scene run through and chapters on film noir, colour, comedy, the hitherto unknown proposed sequels, and writer Cornell Woolrich (whose short story, The Corpse Next Door, was the inspiration for the film), the book includes extensive original interviews with:

Marcus Reichert (the director. Union City was his only full-length feature film for reasons which are discussed in the book)

Monty Montgomery (the producer who went on to produce films with David Lynch and who also had an acting role as The Cowboy in Mulholland Drive)

Ed Lachman (the cinematographer, who has also worked with directors Werner Herzog and Wim Wenders, and most recently with Todd Haynes)

Stefan Czapsky (the gaffer, who since went on to work with Tim Burton, among others, as a cinematographer)

Fred Caruso (the line producer who has also worked with Sergio Leone and David Lynch - a piece of trivia is that his ear was the model for the one found severed in the grass in Blue Velvet)

Deborah Harry (lead singer of Blondie. Union City was her first starring role)

Chris Stein (guitarist with Blondie who scored the film)

Everett McGill (actor who went on to have a role in Twin Peaks and other Lynch films)

Irina Maleeva (actor whose career started
with Fellini)

Sam McMurray (actor who now does mostly US TV work)

Plus many shorter interviews with those incidental crew members that I was able to track down.

More information to follow nearer publication.
